Frequesntly asked questions (FAQs)

Common questions to help you know you are in the right spot for dog training.

Q: Do you have a phone number I can call?

A: Yes, of course! Call us at 289-401-8884. We'll get some information from you and get a trainer on a call with you to chat more.

Q: What kinds of training do you offer?

A: We offer a range of services, including puppy training (under 7 months), private training (for dogs 7 months+), reactivity & aggression training, group classes, board & train programs, online training, pack walks & bootcamps, and help with separation anxiety.

Q: What training philosophy or methods do you use?

A: We believe in evidence-based, science‐backed training that builds trust and strengthens the bond between you and your dog. We focus on non‐aggressive solutions and tailor our methods to each dog’s behaviour and your preferences. Some examples include positive reinforcement, obedience training, marker training, operant conditioning, desensitization, and counter-conditioning.

Q: Can I talk to a trainer before starting?

A: Yes! We offer several ways to connect. You can watch our video overviews for the Puppy Training, Private Training, and Reactivity & Aggression programs to see which might be the best fit for your dog. You can also call us directly at 289-401-8884 to speak with a trainer. For a more in-depth discussion, you can schedule a comprehensive phone or video consultation with one of our behaviour specialists for a small fee. This last option is available if you’d like tailored advice before choosing a program, a one-off consultation to review training options, reassurance that you’re on the right track, or an honest conversation about a challenging situation.

Q: Where do you provide training?

A: We serve the Niagara Region and surrounding areas, including St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Niagara‐on‐the‐Lake, Welland, Fort Erie, Port Colborne, Grimsby, Lincoln, Hamilton, Burlington, etc. We come to you for our Puppy Training, Private training, Reactivity & Aggression, and Separation Anxiety programs. We run Group Classes, Pack Walks & Bootcamps at different locations around the region.

Q: What does your puppy training program cover?

A: Our puppy training program is designed for dogs under 7 months old and helps set the foundation for a well-behaved companion. We focus on housebreaking and crate training, building routines, proper socialization, bite inhibition to prevent nipping and chewing, leash walking skills, basic obedience, and guidance through key developmental stages. See more details here.

Q: How does private training work?

A: The Private Training program is designed for dogs 7 months and older and is tailored to your dog’s specific needs. The program typically runs as a 5-session series, covering obedience, manners, and common problem behaviours. See more details here.

If your dog is showing signs of aggression or reactivity, we recommend our specialized Reactivity & Aggression Training Program, which is better suited to address those concerns.

Q: How do you address reactivity or aggression?

A: Our reactivity & aggression program begins with a comprehensive behaviour assessment conducted by our canine behaviour specialist. From there, we create a tailored intervention plan focusing on issues such as fear-based reactivity, growling or lunging, and resource guarding. Training is delivered one-on-one, giving both you and your dog the tools to safely manage and improve behaviour. We want to minimize stress for you and your dog as much as possible. You are in great hands, learn more here.

Q: Do you offer group classes?

A: We run both puppy and adult group classes that focus on obedience, socialization, recall, and leash skills in a supportive group setting. Because classes are scheduled based on demand, availability may vary, so please add your name to our waitlist for upcoming sessions and reach out if you’re interested - we’ll contact you as new classes are organized.

Q: Do you offer a Board & Train program?

A: Yes, we offer Board & Train on a case-by-case basis. In this program, your dog stays in a trainer’s home and works on structure, obedience, crate training, leash manners, and socialization. This can be for new puppies needing the foundation to help you with a strong head start, or for dog's with behavioural challenges. To get started, you can submit a request form telling us about your dog, your goals, and what you hope to achieve through the program. We’ll review your submission and let you know if Board & Train is a good fit. You can find more details and the request form on our Board & Train page.

Q: What are Pack Walks and Bootcamps?

A: Both are excellent ways to build skills and structure outside of regular training. Pack Walks are structured group walks where multiple dogs and handlers practice walking calmly together, improving social skills, leash manners, and focus around distractions. Bootcamps are offered as a single-session training experience that blends the benefits of a pack walk with targeted coaching. In a bootcamp, you’ll learn and practice basic leash skills while helping your dog improve focus and engagement during the walk. See more details on both options here.

Q: How much does training cost and how do I choose the right program?

A: Costs depend on the program (puppy, private, reactivity & aggression, board & train, etc.), number of sessions, and location. The best way to choose is to complete our intake survey and provide details about your dog’s age, breed, and behaviour - we’ll recommend the right fit and provide a quote. We can also discuss payment plans, and if finances are a barrier, a single-session option may be available to help you get started. Our main focus is supporting you in building a stronger relationship with your dog and working toward your training goals, so we encourage you to reach out and discuss the best path forward.

AMAZING!

The online course has been so helpful. My dog gets fear reactive on walks and barks at other dogs. The class has given us the tools we need to make progress. I love that it is all positive training. Highly recommend!

LOVE IT

took the "Coming When Called" online class, then after that "Focus In Public". Wow! For the first time ever, I think my dog actually thinks that I am more fun than other dogs, people or how the bushes smell. He comes running now when I call, and we even mastered heeling for short periods in our busy city center. Lovely instructions that are positive and make training a GAME
